Volunteer Opportunities
The Guemes Island Historical Society was founded in 2003 by a group of Guemes Islanders interested in working to preserve the island's history. In those years, artifacts were collected and its stories told through public presentations and print; notably the Evening Star and Guemes Tide. In 2019,after the passing of two of its leaders and its dissolution, a new group was formed to carry on the work. Since then, GIHS 2.0 has been able to expand and professionally archive thecollection, held two Island-wide presentations, and acquire the 'History Hut' - a 300sf mobile building that will give us dedicated space for collection storage and archiving.
